Vermillion School District
Vermillion is proud of the high quality of education provided by its local school systems, consistently ranked as one of the best for outstanding education, extracurricular opportunities, and athletic programs. Graduating seniors score higher ACT and SAT scores than both state and national averages.
Serving the Clay and Union County communities of Vermillion, Burbank, and Meckling, the Vermillion Public School District encompasses 200 square miles in southeastern South Dakota. The district is governed by a five-member school board, and is guided by a district superintendent and three building principals. The district operates one high school (Vermillion High School), one middle school (Vermillion Middle School), and a brand new elementary school completed in 2024. Current enrollment is 1,391.
St. Agnes Catholic School
St. Agnes Catholic School strives to establish a Catholic community through excellence in education and service based on Christian values. St. Agnes School has been serving St. Agnes Parish and community since 1961. The school creates an integrated educational and religious environment where Christian values are discovered and strengthened during a child’s natural growth.
St. Agnes School also offers a year-round licensed childcare center for its students attending preschool through fifth grade.
University of South Dakota

USD is South Dakota's flagship liberal arts institution, and boasts the state's only law school, medical school, and AACSB accredited business school.

Short-term, non-credit classes open to all ages and education levels at the University of South Dakota.
Vermillion Public Library
Programming for youth, teens, and adults and families. All library programs are free and open to the public.
