Meet Nate Welch! As the President & CEO of the Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company, Nate helps direct the Economic Development, Chamber of Commerce and Visitor & Tourism industries in Vermillion.
Nate often serves on many committees and tasks forces in Vermillion and South Dakota. Some of the most recent he has been part of include: the Search Committee for the 18th President of USD, the Law School Relocation Task Force and he currently serves on the County’s Facility Task Force, as well as the National Music Museum Board of Trustees.
Before moving to Vermillion, Nate was one of the youngest General Managers in the country of a professional baseball team, the Sioux Falls Canaries. As the Vice President of Operations for Sioux Falls Sports, LLC. – the company that owns and manages the Sioux Falls Canaries and the Sioux Falls Stampede – he was instrumental in the name change from ‘Pheasants’ back to ‘Canaries’, uniting a community again to their baseball team. In 2011, he founded NATECo, which is a mascot and promotions consulting company.
In Sioux Falls, Nate was a founding member and then the Chairman of the Sioux Falls Young Professional Network for two years. Nate is the co-founder and Vice President of One Step America, INC – a non-profit, non-partisan organization that looks to encourage the country to discourse more respectively in politics and focus on similarities in efforts to achieve the greater good.
Nate attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln to study Mass Communication and Broadcasting and Sociology. After his attendance at Nebraska, he became an award winning journalist while working as a reporter and anchor for KDLT-TV and then KSFY-TV in Sioux Falls. Nate has a double major in Management and Entrepreneurial studies from the University of Sioux Falls, which fuels Nate’s passion for fair and ethical business practices.
He also has a natural heart for entertainment. Before age 26, he had performed for more than four million people in 35 states throughout the country as different mascots, representing the University of Nebraska, the NCAA and other professional organizations. Nate is a 2006 inductee into the Roosevelt High School Fine Arts Hall of Fame for his years of dedication in band, choir and theatre while in high school.
Nate’s loves in his life are theatre, golf, laughing with others, his Lord and Savior – Jesus Christ and above everything, his family – his wife, two daughters, Mya and Isabella and son, Logan.
